Prostatitis is a disease familiar to many men. With this pathology, an acute or chronic inflammatory process develops in the prostate gland, most often associated with infectious flora. In the absence of timely medical care, such a disease can lead to secondary inflammatory damage to other organs of the genitourinary system, infertility. In this article, we will look at the first signs of prostatitis in men.
Acute prostatitis
Acute prostatitis in its development goes through several stages:
- catarrhal;
- Follicular;
- Parenchymal.
Depending on the stage, the symptoms of this disease will vary.
In acute catarrhal inflammation, rapid, often painful urination, pain syndrome, localized in the perineum, sacrum, come to the fore in the clinical picture.
The follicular inflammatory process is accompanied by more intense symptoms. The patient indicates severe pain, sometimes spreading to the anus, aggravated by defecation. A characteristic symptom is the difficulty in the process of urination. Urine with this disease follows a thin stream, sometimes it is delayed. The general condition of a sick person also suffers — the body temperature rises, weakness occurs.
The parenchymal stage of acute prostatitis is accompanied by a pronounced intoxication syndrome with an increase in body temperature to febrile values, and a sharp malaise. The process of urination is even more difficult, and acute urinary retention is often observed. The pain syndrome is extremely intense, has a sharp, pulsating character.
Chronic prostatitis
Chronic prostatitis can be the outcome of an acute inflammatory process, but most often it develops initially.
The primary symptoms of this disease are mild soreness, localized in the perineum, discomfort during urination. A sick person may pay attention to the appearance of scanty discharge from the urethra during the act of defecation. In some cases, there is a slight increase in body temperature.
As pathological changes in the prostate progress, the pain syndrome becomes more pronounced. Sometimes it becomes extremely intense, disturbing sleep. Strengthening or weakening of pain can be observed with ejaculation, prolonged sexual abstinence. In some cases, the pain syndrome spreads to the region of the sacrum, lower back.
Dysuric disorders also occur in chronic prostatitis. They can be represented by an increase in the urge to urinate, the difficulty of this process.
Another characteristic symptom in the long course of chronic prostatitis is problems with potency, leading to significant psychological discomfort, a decrease in the quality of life of a sick person. In advanced cases, this disease can even cause infertility.
In 2019, scientists from the Research Institute of Urology and Interventional Radiology. ON THE. Lopatkin published a work in which it was found that chronic bacterial prostatitis is associated with a decrease in the concentration of spermatozoa, a decrease in their viability, general and progressive mobility.
