Experts from the North American Menopause Society (NAMS) believe that it is the quality of sleep, and not its duration, that determines the level of sexual activity in middle-aged women.

Sleep disturbances and sexual problems often go hand in hand in middle-aged and older women. Thus, more than 26% of women report insomnia and related sleep problems. During menopause, this figure reaches 50%. And in the same period of life, 43% of women face problems in the intimate sphere.

The study involved more than 3.4 thousand women, whose average age was 53 years. Scientists were interested in how the quality of sleep and its duration affect the sexual function of older female representatives.

As a result, scientists came to the conclusion that lack of sleep can negatively affect the health and quality of life of a woman in general. But sexual dysfunction is a consequence of poor sleep. Insomnia in all its manifestations, regardless of the duration of sleep, has a negative effect on a woman’s sexual life.

The opposite is also true: a good sound sleep, even with its periodic lack, is associated with an active sex life of the fair sex.
