Involuntary relaxation during sleep of the soft palate and tongue, due to the anatomical features of the human structure, leads to vibration of the soft tissues of the laryngopharynx. Snoring — this is the name of this process — is accompanied by a low-frequency rattling sound, quite unpleasant for others, in addition, its appearance indirectly indicates problems in the body. How to get rid of nasal trills — there is no single recipe. There are 186 registered anti-snoring products in the United States alone, ranging from the most common, drug-assisted, to radical, surgically-placed palatal implants. Healthyinfo offers to understand the whole variety of methods and devices used in order to be able to make an informed choice of the most appropriate method of treatment in each particular case.

General prevention of snoring in obesity, smoking, age-related changes

General prevention of snoring in obesity, smoking, age-related changes

Having reacted in time to the appearance of the first hoarse breathing sounds in a dream, you can get rid of them with the help of special exercises for the muscles of the tongue and lower jaw. Trained muscle tissue, even in a state of relaxation, will maintain tone by reducing the vibration of the palate and uvula.

Often the cause of snoring is obesity. Having gained significant weight, a person runs the risk of getting such a dangerous and unpleasant disease as sleep apnea (stopping breathing during sleep). If there are no concomitant complications yet, it is enough to reduce body weight by 5–7% to eliminate night sounds.

Smokers, in order for the treatment of snoring to be effective, must give up their addiction. Indeed, regular inhalation of smoke leads to chronic trauma of the laryngopharynx and aggravation of the frequency and strength of the hoarse sounds emitted.

You can also get rid of snoring with positional treatment, which does not give a person the opportunity to fall asleep on his back. Most often, a tennis ball is placed in a special pocket sewn on the back of the pajamas. When turning on the back, it creates discomfort, and the person immediately turns to one side. A variation of this method is sewing miniature bells into pajamas. There are also special “backpacks” for those who snore. They are products with a dense filler on the back, fastened with a system of straps and belts.

Fans of modern technology can use the Japanese alarm clock with motion sensors that are triggered when a person turns on his back. However, it should be recognized that sleep interruption is not suitable for everyone: a person can wake up every time and then try to fall asleep for a long time.

Snoring can be relieved by raising the head of the bed. Try to change the low pillow to a higher one, the best is an orthopedic one. Keeping your head and neck in a physiological position during sleep will have a beneficial effect on the body.

You can do it more radically by raising the headboard by 10–15 cm with the help of a stand under the legs of the bed. The high position of the head will keep the airways open, which means there will be no snoring.

Treatment of snoring with medications

Treatment of snoring with medications

Medicines are available in various forms, there are quite a lot of them, so when contacting a pharmacy, a pharmacist can always find something suitable. However, it must be remembered that medications are effective only in the presence of snoring without complications. In addition, the disadvantage of such a solution is the constancy of the use of medicines and their cost.

The form of release of medications for snoring can be different, most often they are sprays, but there are also drops, tablets. It is impossible to list all pharmaceutical preparations, we will give only the most common ones:

    Asonor (Asonor), both spray and drops;
    Sominorm (Sominorm), spray;
    Sleepex (Sleepex), spray;
    Dr. Snore (Doctor Sleep ex), spray;
    Nasonex (Nasonex), spray;
    Silence, spray;
    Snorstop (SnoreStop), tablets or solution for inhalation.

The principle of action of the drugs is similar — they moisturize and soften the mucous surface of the nasopharynx, tone up the muscles of the palate. The effect manifests itself gradually, the treatment of snoring with any one universal tablet, unfortunately, is not feasible, but it is possible to relieve the symptoms or significantly reduce them. Most drugs do not have unpleasant side effects, because they contain herbal ingredients.

Mechanical remedies for snoring

Continuous use of medications is still not recommended, even if they have no contraindications. No one can guarantee the absence of side effects with long-term use of drugs. Therefore, various mechanical devices are used to treat snoring:

    intraoral devices;
    clips fixed on the nostrils;
    CPAP therapy (face mask with air flow).

As an example of an intraoral polymeric device, the snoring agent Extra-Lor should be mentioned. It is placed in the mouth for the period of sleep and does not allow the tongue to sink down, pressing it down and provoking tension in the walls of the larynx. The muscles of the respiratory tract, which are in good shape, prevent the vibration of soft tissues.

It is possible to sleep with an anti-snoring clip fixed in the nostrils for the treatment of snoring. This small device widens the nasal passages, and at the ends of it are placed magnetic elements, consisting of rare earth metals. Anti-snoring is also required constantly. After abandoning it, the night trills are likely to return. Only a small number of cases have been recorded when this remedy for snoring helped to cure radically. Scientists suggest that the magnetic field produced by the clip has a beneficial effect on the normalization of breathing, but there is no clear evidence for this.

The last of these devices is the most effective. In a medical hospital, the mask is used to treat snoring with complications; it is not difficult to use it at home. The device, connected by a flexible tube to the compressor, is put on the face, the injected air enters the respiratory tract, hoarse sounds stop in a dream.

A snoring remedy such as CPAP therapy can significantly improve the well-being of people with severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. Obstruction of the respiratory tract is eliminated, the brain and heart stop experiencing oxygen starvation, the risk of heart attack and stroke is reduced, working capacity and concentration of attention are improved.

Installation of palatal implants with the permission of an otorhinolaryngologist

Installation of palatal implants with the permission of an otorhinolaryngologist

The volume of hoarse night breathing can be reduced by installing palatal implants that strengthen the soft tissues of the palate. The procedure of their implantation into the body is performed under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis for half an hour.

The advantages of such a radical cure for patients diagnosed with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea are:

dessert, cake, bakery products
dessert, cake, bakery products

donuts, sweets, bakery products
green onion, ingredients, raw
    the speed of the procedure;
    short recovery period;
    almost complete absence of side effects;
    result verified by controlled clinical trials;
    within a year after the outpatient procedure, the apnea / hypopnea index does not change;
    reduction of lethargy and fatigue during the day, a qualitative improvement in health;
    reversibility of the procedure.

Note! Although the installation of palatal implants shows an above-average result, it cannot be applied to all patients without exception. There are a number of contraindications that should be carefully considered. First of all, these are: severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, obesity of the 1st degree and above. A person suffering from snoring should first be examined by an experienced otorhinolaryngologist, it is also recommended to undergo a polysomnographic study and cardio-respiratory monitoring.
